Why Lithuania

What Americans Love About Lithuania

Beyond the affordability — the real reasons Americans choose Lithuania.

Business Investment Residency
Lithuania's business-based investment residence permit requires active involvement — you must manage or genuinely found the business, not simply invest passively. Routes range from a standard business investment (from roughly €14,000 plus creating an EU job) up to larger investment tracks. Among the more accessible business-immigration routes in the EU.
Remote Work National Visa
Lithuania has no dedicated "Digital Nomad Visa" — remote workers with non-Lithuanian entities use the general national visa route, with income pegged to roughly 2.5x average salary (~€5,460/month as of 2025-2026). Can apply at the embassy. Full Schengen access.
Top 10 Global Internet
Lithuania ranks top 10 in the world for internet speed. 100+ Mbps widely available for €15–25/month. For digital professionals and remote workers, the infrastructure is world-class.
Startup Ecosystem
Vilnius is the EU's second fastest-growing startup hub. Access to EU markets, affordable operating costs, English-speaking talent pool, and a government that actively courts tech entrepreneurs.
Pro-American Culture
Strong historical ties between Lithuania and the US — large Lithuanian-American diaspora, shared NATO membership since 2004, and a genuinely warm welcome for Americans.
EU & Schengen Access
Full EU member since 2004, full Schengen since 2007. Lithuanian residency grants freedom of movement across 29 Schengen countries. Business investment residency requires active involvement in Lithuania — not a passive, no-stay-required route.
Vilnius
The Baroque capital. UNESCO-listed Old Town, booming fintech and startup scene (second in EU for startup growth), and a growing international community. Lithuania's cultural and economic heart.
Kaunas
2022 European Capital of Culture. Dynamic interwar architecture hub with a strong university presence, thriving tech ecosystem, and a more laid-back, creative vibe. Excellent value and quality of life.
Klaipėda
The only major Lithuanian port city. Distinct maritime culture, proximity to the Curonian Spit (UNESCO), strong industrial and logistics sector. Ideal for coastal living lovers.
Palanga & the Coast
Lithuania's coastal resort strip. Beautiful beaches on the Baltic Sea, lower costs than Vilnius, and a relaxed summer lifestyle. Very popular with remote workers.
Panevėžys & Šiauliai
Smaller regional centers offering a very authentic Lithuanian lifestyle, extremely low costs, and a strong sense of community. Suitable for those with fully remote roles.
