Vilnius is unexpectedly green -- the old town sits at the confluence of two rivers (Neris and Vilnia), and forested hills rise above many neighborhoods. Gediminas Hill offers panoramic views. Vingis Park is the city's largest green space. Green space access within Vilnius is exceptional for a European capital.

Day trips -- Trakai, Kaunas, and the Baltic coast
Vilnius's geographic position opens excellent day trips: Trakai (25 minutes) is a medieval island castle on a lake -- one of Lithuania's most iconic sights. Kaunas (1 hour) is Lithuania's second city with a superb Art Deco old town. The Curonian Spit UNESCO natural park and Baltic coast (4 hours) is extraordinary in summer.
